Katanagatari

image

Here I am, this time round at an anime review. This anime has captured my attention, from the twice as long twelve episodes that I never found it too long. To the amazing story that was told here. Right now, I have plenty of ideas for Fanfiction. One that concerns Togame, but mostly Shichika.

This anime has been surprising from the start of the show to the end. It wad just so unlike anything I have ever watched, yet in its own way had shocked me.

Let’s start shall we?

Characters

Although I would only touch on a few characters but most had intrigued me. From their mindsets to their pasts and even those that had very little screentime it was just interesting. The words that they utter, that was also so thought provoking talking about many different philosophies, mindsets to even thinking.

But then, let’s get started, I’ll talk about my favourite quotes later.

Yasuri Shichika

image

image

He starts off rather flat, although in his own weird way compelling. He is a blank slate at the beginning without either a will or even thinking. But in his own way, he was just compelling. Why? He killed three people in this state, thus making me think, and proves his strength that even without a goal he is a force to be reckoned with. And develops his own personality and even more as the story progresses. Also, can I say, that he is just compelling because he seems to know what it happening around him and is observant, just whether he brings it up or not.

By that point you would have been torn to pieces

This was a quote I enjoyed because it wasn’t said when he was angry but as a catchphrase, I’m serious. It’s just that mind warping.

Togame

image

image

Can I say one thing before I begin on her: Cheerio. Why it’s her catchphrase which she mistook that it fires people up instead of farewell.

Actually, this character had been the one that I enjoyed the most. One, she’s not a tomboy. Clumsy and even self quoted herself

My physical ability can be compared to sliding door paper

I can see why. She is prone to clumsiness. And makes funny and simple mistakes yet when she is needed, she is very intelligent and proves it. That she is a stradegian. Just that she thinks herself a princess and is rather cheery. That much in interesting.

Hitei

image

image

Another character that I believe is worth the mention. She only appears for a grand total of five episodes yet she piqued my interest. From her words,

I wish to see Shilizaki Kiki’s plans destroyed as much as I wish to see it complete

d

Can I just say that it’s just so controversial? It really is. Her character is basically an enigma, at the beginning she did not see eye to eye with Togame yet at the end she admitted that she did not want to dislike her. That made me think.

Nanami

image

image

One of my favourite in the anime. If you think that she looks frail, and is the typical older sister. You are so wrong. She is a murderer in disguise and rather fatalistic with no sympathy, a prodigy yet she is so frail. In fact, the only reason why she does not fight is because of it and to the degree that her father fears her.

That was what I enjoyed about her, as from episode 1, I felt that there was more to her and I was proven right. There was so much more to her than that to the point that I had been shocked.

There is nothing else, now on the the plot.

Plot

Can I just say I have never read something so shounen yet in the end had something historical to it. And something very false. This story on its own, just had so much depth and thought. Even though only twelve episodes, but I think it will be remembered by me for a very long time. The plot was so intelligent.

Quotes:

If you take a stance, then won’t you get slower
-Yasuri Nanami

Being used and using is the way for the world
Maniwa Koumori

What will be your dying words?
-Souda Emonzaemon

By abandoning offense, even without winning, the result would be certainly victory
Togame

A fight is an agreement between two parties so is the opponent abandons the fight, you can’t win
Yasuri Shichika

So this is what it’s like for a sword to use a sword
Yasuri Nanami

Looking at your memories, is recognizing the parts of you that you don’t want to face
Higaki Rinne

It’s not bad to think things through, but overthinking isn’t good either
Yasuri Shichika

I’ll have you fall for me
Sabi Hakuhei

Some of them are hilarious, others just makes a lot of sense and some I don’t even want to know but it makes so much sense.

This is the end of my review of Katanagatari, catch me next time when I review another anime, although probably not anytime soon. Now, I need to just start writing crazy Fanfiction concerning them. Also, plenty of crossovers.

Also, the OSTs here were amazing. And that it had so much meaning that I enjoyed every one of them. Especially the opening songs.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Too bad there isn’t a sequel.

Bleach 671

Okay, that power up was just amazing. The power of Daiguren Hyorinmaru is something so different yet I totally agree. It is a very versatile ability and one that can truly indeed bring down gods. Basically he just freezes everything and it nullify all powers, special functions. Even though it doesn’t fully subdue Gerard but it makes absolute sense here.

Next thing that was even better, was the team effort. We have all three of them together and even a new move from Byakuya. I’m totally fine, it’s high time that he could show something. Also, his power being that of freezing everything it made sense. It’s basically taking the best thing you own or the best trait about you away and leaving you with the rest. Reminds me of a certain character but hey, it made sense. That’s all I have to comment.

I can see how it even links to hell. Tue part about removing hope, which is basically Gerard’s ability now. It actually made sense why he was pitted against Gerard for his nee ability was to suspend and destroy that hope. The moment he freezes it, their powers in a way are taken from them.

Thus, in a way removing hope. I think I got confused with Gerard’s ability of hope and the hope. Anyway, it is a very good ability.

Also, Kenpachi helped out at the end, it makes sense, in fact I liked it and enjoyed it. It had made perfect sense in its own way. Although his strength is just as monstrous as earlier.

Byakuya’s new move being the ending cliffhanger. Now, I just need to see what happens next.

I’ll have a wait and see one. Though I’ll be expecting Gerard to be diced to bits, then Toshiro freezing it even more and to the core and suspending his ability to regenerate. Yup, that’s how I think Gerard will go down.

Anyway, this week had been enjoyable to me like really enjoyable. I think this is already nearing the end of the fight otherwise I’ll treat Gerard as Lille, and just hope that his transformation just
doesn’t get too ridiculous.

Otherwise, this chapter was very quick and fast for me yet plenty of action and short and quick enough for me to read and get the gist of the chapter.

I realize that I don’t just like Fantasy also at the same time I also like Historical. Now looking at those books and anime or any kind of medium. I’m a sucker for good loomin boys with an awesome political intrigue story or a smart high or dark fantasy story. So, now going crazy in historical anime.

Before reading: the young elites had mindblown me, will the sequel do the same and live up the expectations that I have *opens book*.

After reading:

What happens when a sequel is so good that is blows the first book away and when it was  everything that I had wanted and even more? I go even crazier. I had finished this book in the grand total of three days unable to even go to sleep without it.

This had been something that had hyped me at the start, thrilled me at the middle and shocked me at the end.

The story can I just say I enjoyed it. But it’s a statement, now onto the review.

The characters:

The characters here, there were so many that were introduced in this book and I liked every one of them, they were just so distinct. From Maeve to even Sergio I enjoyed them.

Adelina

She was so much darker here. She really is, she had hallucinations and there were just so many quotes here that I enjoyed. She had really changed, now with her own skills. I liked her, she was opportunistic, she made ruthless decisions yet I sympathise with her I wanted to see her win rather than lose. I wanted to see her revenge. That had to be a feat in its own way and kudos to Marie Lu. She had doubts at the start but every step that she took lead to more ruthlessness. Which is precisely the reason why the more she grows in darkness her power also spiral out of control.

One thing I have to comment about here: she goes from a scared confused girl to a really amazing villaness very well. It was just so believable.

A quote I got that was just amazing and will be forever etched in my memory:

True rulers are never born they are made

Teren

He is the next character that I had to mention here, he is a villain and the way he was brought down, that had shocked me and his plight. I get to see more his mindset, where it is just so fascinating. He basically hates himself and kills others like him, it very little sense but yet it was just so fascinating. One thing Adelina had spoken right about Teren’s feelings about Giulietta, it’s not love rather it’s obsession. I wholeheartedly agree. His mindset, it was that of an antagonist not a villain, an antagonist. His liking for Giulietta may have been infatuation but it ended up as obsession.  In this book, Adelina and Teren are equal in terms of mortality and mindset, and are very great characters here. Thus he is a antagonist. He seems to be so fixed to his mindset that even Giulietta seems saner and had better intentions than him. He just wants to purge and destroy.

One thing I would say: he’s a radical, like really crazy and fixed in his mindset kind of way and he would be willing to throw his away his life for his cause.

Maeve

What can I say? If there’s woman that I also root for here, it’s her. She was a character that I liked from the very time she made her appearance. Her personality, isn’t that of a kind queen. She is smart and has her countries benefits at the beginning, the sole purpose she wants Enzo on the throne was the for the sole reason of expanding trade. Yet, she is very ruthless. She isn’t stupid and a Royal, she also proves her worth. That she actually deserves the throne. Also, her power doesn’t make her invincible it also has drawbacks that is what I like.

One thing I should say about her character: she had been hinted and she had made me intrigued in her past. Also, she is ruthless yet skilled queen. In making deals and alliances.

Magiano

Can I say that this is the man that I would have liked Adelina to elope with? He just felt so kind sweet, yet in his own way he could be Adelina’s partner in crime. He was just so fascinating, I wouldn’t have mind it if he was given his own side stories. What can I say? I enjoy cunning and enigmatic male characters much more than strong Badass ones.

He as character was just something that I enjoyed how he was handled, like really. He did not just waltz in to help Adelina but rather time was taken and there had been a bet. Also he is greedy like as in really greedy, he cannot control himself it is a penchant of his. However that id what made me enjoy him even more.

One thing I should say about his  character: wow, he’s really greedy no wonder why he’s a thief. Also, I totally dig his character.

Enzo

I actually didn’t like him as much. Well, he was brought back but for a brief moment I liked him back. Yet, after it, I didn’t like him as much. He when brought back was pretty much the same. Yet I liked him due to the nostalgia and his actions are logical and would make sense when I put the two books together.

When he came back, he believed Adelina well because of their love and when he found out, he betrayed her. It was logical as he was shown to have mercy to even the boy who did mot succeed to control the rain. Who makes an appearance here. Thus, it makes sense as he still has compassion although hidden.

One thing I should say about his character in this book: he is also another character that isn’t so bad once I analyse his actions in fact it also makes me sympathetic.

Raffaele

He was so much better in this book. The moment that I heard his story, yet it didn’t affect him. He as a character here is fuller and his more gentle yet ruthless side here is really shown. He knows a lot of thing s and is knowledgeable and keeps them in a set of notes and is very intelligent.

Yet, he still is compassionate but not to the point of stupidity which would make the classic hero in any story. But rather to a degree and does what everyone calls self preservation. Real self preservation.

One thing I should say: he as a character here I enjoyed his backstory, he is better and fuller. From his every reaction to issues. To his intellect and wisdom, let’s just say I enjoyed him.

Plot:

The plot here was just so much better, it really was, there is no way around it. There was so much here from the manipulation to the goals of every character to their next action. Every person showed their next action and their plans, Adelina had her own, the daggers had their own, Teren had her own. Everyone had their own. The story here is just so much better and who it was, I didn’t care there was just so much to see here. The story here is fuller with the world having expanded quite a lot and the characters gone vast. There is a big twist at the back, but I’ll just leave it as there are just so many concerning different characters.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Anticipating the sequel, like really. *glances at the calender* still six months till release date, just gritting my teeth and getting it over with. I really don’t know what would happen in the sequel but I have high hopes with this book which blew the previous book out of the water.

Bleach 670

Okay, I’ll admit it now, I’m a full bleach girl. I enjoy the series and some characters that many of the fandom hates.

Kenpachi here attacks once more, and that he just looks so demonic. Well, Gerard being sliced in half can still survive, well it would make sense. He is the miracle who gets stronger from damage. At least he did not change into something too ridiculous.

Gerard comes back looking more like an Archangel. And possibly more Valkyrie. Kenpachi then goes on another strike before it just so happens that his elbow gets cut off.

Well, it’s realistic. Otherwise what was the need to having to train, and the next scene when Yachiru had apologized. I get it, that bankai could not just be mastered during thr first time and it would make sense that he would be as well. One thing I liked about Kenpachi’s bankai, it is the perfect one for him, simple and easy because let’s face it he’s simple minded, he’s not very rational neither would he think through fights at all. He’s like the cut first think later guy.

My main reaction would go to the later part. Where we know what happens.

More on the end where Toshiro just grows up. My initial reaction: Wait, what? I actually think he’s an okay character, just that he hasn’t Bern handled very well. And his track record is bad due to being at a disadvantage and/or it being interrupted for the sake of plot.

The theory I have about Toshiro’s current form is that his bankai. Even though I didn’t know that it had to do with hell until I read about it, and that it was Buddhist hell. For me, that was a wake up call that I really need to understand more about my previous religion like really and its eighteen levels of hell. Well, it’s eighteen levels of hell, I have seen the pictorial depictions of it, and never forgot. It was just too scary and my mother had talked to me that I just could not handle it for a while, I was only a eleven year old back at Haw Par Villa

I have read online about his bankai theories, the one part where he would die after using it, well I don’t think so although it can be true before the time skip when his body just could not handle the strength.  Thus, once he withstood it it would be possible that he would die from the sheer strength. But now I don’t think so.

Also, the part where the ice petals run out his bankai disappears, I think it can be for when he was before the time skip. Where his bankai will disappear due to Hyorinmaru’s interference where it would just disappear or seal. However, it was never confirmed only speculated but never implied nor told. So it was foreshadowed back then. So asspull, not really. It had been something planned and foreshadowed that was put in such a way that I didn’t think about it and would have led me to think that it was a limiter.

Also, the part where he just grows up, it is possible since his power is ice, is that his growth had been stopped or something like crytostasis(did I get the spelling right?) where he stopped due to his powers. I think it had a huge link to why he stopped aging and would make sense. Thus, when his bankai reaches maturity, so does he to adjust with the sudden increase in power which is my theory and believe.

Another fight would also be the part about Harribel, he always said reaching maturity but never that of mastering it. This was another thing that had me thinking where it could also be that there could be more. Even now, his bankai may well be incomplete. Just look at Zanka No Tachi. That has four forms.

The link to hell, I could see was to do with the eighth level of hell, I see why I did not see it, because I was only seeing the pictorial descriptions of the ten levels of hell.

It is the eighth level to hell, called the hill of ice, the very function of it is to punish Cold-blooded schemers(for money or power most likely) and ungrateful blood suckers (also for money most lieu), including those who ill-treat their partners and elders, will find themselves naked in this freezing cold environment.

I highly doubt Toshiro’s powers would be like that, but I think it would make the surrounding entirely in ice or something very loosely based on this. Or his powers could be based on hell and putting Gerard in hell, like literally an ice hell.

And in the ten levels of hell, where it is used  to punish those who commit corruption, those who steal and gamblers by freezing them in blocks of ice.

Also, another one to take note of as I saw it, whilst scrolling through those morbid and gruesome images. As this also can be another power.

Although I’m not entirely sure and most of this are just very bare in details. I think I might need to pay a trip back to Har Paw Villa or look at some books on hell. Now, I’m shuddering as back to gory depictions or images. However I do believe it would influence it. But I’m holding a wait and see attitude on this.

Also, the more demonic bankais and or transformation may be due to the fact that the Shinigami in literal meaning means death gods than that, and that this also have heavy influences on Buddhism where those who guide the dead here are mostly demons and nowhere near as nice as angels. So, there is a link why there are more demonic bankais here rather than angels. From what I read on wikipedia, they were demons that made people want to commit sucide and that they possessed them. So, another reason for the more demonic bankais.
